Caring for your flowers
You've been gifted (or treated yourself to!) a BEAUTIFUL bouquet of flowers, but now what? How do you ensure they last, unlike those bananas in your fruit bowl?

First things first, keep them away from those bananas! Food, particularly fruit, give off ethlyne gas which causes other fruit and flowers to ripen faster. Always keep your flowers in a cool spot away from bright sunlight and fruit.

Your flowers will come in a wet wrap to keep them fresh until they are brought inside. Choose an appropriate size vase and give it a good clean with dish-washing liquid and warm water and make sure you remove any residue.

Fill the vase with cool, fresh water.

Give your bouquet a fresh snip with sharp scissors or secateurs. Cut 1-2cm off the bottom, making sure you cut on a 45 angle so the stems can take up as much water as possible. If there are any woddy stems like roses or natives like proteas, you can also snip 1-2cm UP the stem absorb water.

Remove any bumps, flowers or buds that will sit below the water level.

Replace the water every 2-3 days to stop bacteria forming, and remove any old or dying flowers regularly so they don't go mouldy and cause the other blooms to wilt faster.
